Front Cover: Examining the entrails --- To understand the lithospheric architecture of Africa (see Research Highlight) Craig O’Neill constructed this 3-D model of the high-velocity cratonic roots down to 400 km, using Steve Grand’s seismic tomography model. The West African and Congo cratons have deep robust roots; the root beneath the Kalahari craton has been greatly reduced by tectonism and metasomatism.
